Because this is what I wanted to do on my day off
You have to take time and do things you don't want to do. This is important.
Current Events
Realize that no one source of news is perfect, so look at multiple. Sign up for daily headline emails if nothing else. You generally don't need to pay a subscription fee for those. But maybe pay if you can afford it? Also, follow smart people online. These are some places and people who help me understand the world as it is these days.
* Signing up for these makes me happy because I will not give them money (WHY DO THEY KEEP HIRING CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS?). Yes, I am petty. Let me take my joy where I can.
Activism
Like Mr. Franklin said, our republic is only ours if we can keep it. That takes work. Call your reps; it is the most effective way to tell them what's important to you. In this particular time, the pandemic is working for all who are phone-phobic. The VAST majority of political offices are working remotely, so when you call you can leave a message. That counts. Call them. You can also write postcards to voters. Phonebank for candidates. Donate if you have the means.
Keep fueling the fire
This doesn't stop November 3. We need to keep going on politics, the pandemic (July 2022!!!), racial inequality, oh, and the environment, yeah, that too. So do things that will help you get through it, but don't stop working. These are things that help me.
